Cattle scales

What cattle scales are longest lasting and least hassle?

I have Angus/Red Poll x and they are big steers.

What are good scales and where to find please?

Hi Barra,

There are several brands available. Your local rural supplier should be able to help with catalogues, prices and advice on scales to suit your stock. One thing I can suggest, is to make sure that you get a set of scales that can be run off your truck or ute battery as well as mains power. The weigh crate for my goats come with an inverter so they can be used on either the ute or mains power. Very handy when you are using portable yards up the paddock.

Cheers,

Barb

Hi Barra,

Thanks for the question.

A few things that need to be considered prior to purchasing a set of cattle scales include:

  • Will the scales and platform be portable or permanent?
  • What amount of data storage will be required?
  • Will the cattle scales and data need to be integrated with a stock software maangement program?
  • Does the reader have wireless bluetooth to enable connection to the computer?
  • Electronic reader interface - will a reader need to be connected to the scales for reading of individual animal ID's?

I purchased a set of gallagher cattle scales a few years ago which I have been happy with. They are also very handy around the farm for weighing other things like grain, fertiliser and seed.

Have any other members had any experience with cattle scales or brands that they would recommend?
