How to farm with sheep....
Hello everyone
We have been on our 28 acres on the NSW Central Coast for 2 years now, and have just now fixed the fencing on 2 of our paddocks, which will allow us to keep some livestock. We're wanting to put 5-6 sheep in the paddocks now to see how it goes. The only trouble is, we have no experience with Livestock or farming, and we're unsure what we need to do in order to keep the sheep. We're not looking at using the sheep to make money, it's more for a hobby.
I spoke to Local Land Services and managed to get really confused about our legal responsibilities. I had no idea about all the paperwork required by both ourselves and the vendor we're purchasing the sheep from.
Aside from wanting to know what we need to do as far as reporting our livestock, I'd also like to know from more experienced farmers about everyday care of sheep. We're looking to get Dorper sheep. What do we need to do to keep them happy and healthy?
Any advice would be really appreciated.
Thanks, Mandy
