NEW MEMBER: Looking for a tree-change (QLD to SA)
Hi everyone,
Just wanted to quickly introduce myself.
My name is Vaughan (or just 'V') and my partner & I will be looking to make the move to a hobby farm (100acres) over the next 12 months.
We spent a few weeks farm-sitting for some friends in Adelaide recently, and fell in love with the lifestyle & freedom of owning your own piece of planet earth. We are currently renting a place on the Sunshine Coast QLD, and have to ask permission from the real estate to hang a picture frame. Certainly not how we want to keep living!!
She comes from a farming background in South Africa, whereas I just love the environment & the outdoors. Our goal will be to eventually live off the grid as much as possible, and get back to the old way of doing things.
I have a keen interest in newer, progressive farming techniques, but certainly wont be trying to reinvent the wheel. I have been doing a bit of research into Agroforestry, and wonder if the same techniques can be applied on a productive scale in Australia, on a small property. I have also recently stumbled upon Joel Salatin and his methods which, although controversial to some, seem to benefit the ecology of a property in the long run.
Anyways. I may have some DUMB questions, so please be patient!! I value any & all input, and your knowledge will be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to learning a bunch through this forum.
Cheers,
V.
