Tractor or Atv with tow behind?

Hi guy's have just purchased a property 44 acre in size there would be approximately 10 acre of mixed bush and the rest is open paddocks but is quite hilly just wondering what would be the best option other than animals at this stage for grass management? It can also get quite wet in the area as well. Regards Grizzo

Hi Grizzo,

depends what you want to do with the property. A 4x4 ATV is useful and good for driving on slopes when it's wet, as is a 4x4 tractor. However, if you want to disc or move soil and so on then you would need a tractor, which you can add implements to if it has a PTO on it. As I said, it will depend on what you want to do with your property. Personally, I have both a ute and a Quad bike that I use all the time to get around on the farm. The Quad also has a spray tank and a small trailer- handy when you want to take a few bails of hay and so on up the paddock. If I'm cutting fire wood then I will use the ute or when taking fencing gear and posts etc., to where I'm working up the paddock. When I want paddocks cleared, ploughed or seeded and so on,  I get a contractor as it is much cheaper to call in my favorite contractor than own and maintain a very expensive piece  of machinery that I would only use a few times a year.

Of course, this is just what I do on my property, but the way I work, is not necessarily the way other people might work. I hope some of this has helped.

Cheers,

Barb

Hi Grizzo My property is quite steep and I wouldn't dream of taking a tractor on some parts, I have an ATV and a little Suzuki to get around 130acres. There are slashers for ATVs, they are small and would probably purchase one if I didn't run sheep. They are quite literally a mower you tow along with a wide deck. They sell for around $2500. Ive never bogged my ATV and we have had over 400mm rain this year. I have bogged everything else that has driven onto my property!
