Tree farming / miniature cattle

Hi all, I have a small 35ac hobby farm in northern NSW and am looking at planting trees for profit pulowania trees or something simIlar. Does anyone have any advice or that can recommend some other types of trees or using the land for other uses like miniature cattle

I am new to the hobby farming, I grow my own vegies and some fruit trees but also work fulltime. I am looking to cut back on work if I can make some income from the hobby farm.

Hi Pontiac,

Where about are you? Northern NSW is a big place and the climate varies greatly.

If you have a good rainfall then maybe a better, but longer term project, would be to grow aussie hardwoods for cabinet making along your keylines.

If dogs are not a problem I would look at running sheep for fat lambs. For someone with little or no experience sheep are much easier to handle, the infrastructure is much cheaper, the turn off faster, the breeding rate higher, easier to finish and, at present, the market is good for lambs.

Whatever way you go make sure you divide up your farm so you can enforce controlled grazing or you will have no pasture in very quick time.

Cheers
Rob.
