With many parts of Victoria experiencing a drier than average winter, it is important to consider whether your animals are being fed enough and create an action plan if they are not.
Victorian Farmer Federation’s Stock Sense team will be hosting a two-part farm webinar series focusing on managing the winter feed gap and tips around transitioning lactating animals and their offspring into spring.
The series will be presented by vets Chelsea Hair and Alison Gunn from Herd Solutions and will be tailored towards peri-urban and small landholders. Part one will focus on cattle while part two will focus on sheep and goats with both sessions including time for Q & A.
The following topics will be discussed on the night:
- Feeding stock when the grass is short
- How do I know if my animal is too skinny and what can I do about it?
- Tips around buying hay and supplementary feed
- Managing pregnant dams and their offspring in early spring
Part one: Wednesday 21st August 6:00PM-7:30PM
Part two: Thursday 22nd August 6:00PM-7:30PM
The webinars are free to attend. To register, visit vff.org.au/stock-sense or call the team on 03 9702 5509.
