Getting excited for the future

My wife and I are just going through the motions to purchase our very own property.  14 acres with a lovely home.

We have some big plans.  Raising some cows, chooks, very large veggie beds, fruit trees, grapes, is just the start.  Really want to become self-sufficient.  It's a bit of a dream come true to start this.

Looking forward to visiting this site and getting lots of information, share ideas and the progress.

Simon.

Welcome to the site Digger. One thing to think about is overgrazing. With 14 acres cattle may be more trouble than they are worth. Cheers Rob.

Welcome to the good life Digger and Wife! Be prepared for moments of satisfaction and sheer joy, with a bit of disappointment and frustration thrown in. In other words, life. The most unexpected thing for me was finding everything takes so much longer than I anticipate. I thought I would have my driveway trees and orchard planted the first Winter, how naive I was. The other thing I under estimated was the cost of farming. Most of my dreams have been modified to fit both my budget and physical abilities, and I have realised some things are quite a few years away. Once I accepted that I have been able to enjoy and grow with each challenge. Farming is the most noble of pursuits. Enjoy.

Thanks for the replies.

No doubt we are in for some work and we're absolutely prepared for it....but very OK with taking it slow with the expectation that we will make mistakes.  I think the land has a lot to teach us.

The paddocks have been heavily grazed.  So need to get the soil improved and get them growing with some good pasture.  Looking at some simple swales to hold water in the side of the slopes and to reduce the erosion of the gully.

Looking forward to moving though.
