PIC numbers

Hi All, my fiancee and I are purchasing a 14acre property in Adelaide Hills at the end of the month. I have done some research prior to moving and understand that you need a PIC number if you want livestock on your property. I have asked the current owner and he advised that the property already has one. Any advice on what to do next in regards to transferring/obtaining a new PIC would be greatly appreciated, as well as what I need to do when we want to obtain some livestock.

Hi Shaun,

 

If you go to the MLA (Meat and Livestock Australia) website, it will explain everything you need to do to transfer the PIC. It will also give you a phone number so that you can phone them and getthe info straight from them.

Note that some words start with a capitol letter and others don't. You have to type it exactly as given above.  Hope this helps.

Hi Shaun,

Welcome to Farmstyle and the forum.

The PIC or Property Identification Code is unique to that property and should stay with it when you purchase it.

When you purchase livestock they are transferred on the national livestock database to that PIC. Once they are sold, again they are transferred away from that PIC to the new owners PIC.

You can try and register yourself and transfer the livestock, an easier method is to use a livestock agent in the purchase or sale and thne have them transfer the livestock on your behalf.
