Looking at purchasing in Scenic Rim area.

Hi All!

First post here and looking for a little guidance before I buy a property! Hoping to run a small farm and make a little money, but will not be relying on it to survive.

I am looking to purchase a property between Ipswich and Boonah in the Scenic Rim area, and from my research and talking to people, the area is predominantly scrub soil, used for beef or hay/feed crops. etc.

I was hoping to have a rather decent size vegetable garden, have a few cows for meat and have some pasture for them.

Rainfall seems OK, but not as high as somewhere like the Gold Coast hinterland or the further up towards the Sunshine Coast.

I am completely new to living on the land, but am willing to learn! Wondering what people's thoughts on the area as a small farm area and what would be best to try and grow there?

Cheers,
Matthew

Hi Matt,

Welcome to the small farm community and thanks for the post.

I'm not familiar with the area but as a general comment if you are only looking at running a few head of cattle and growing some vegetables for your own consumption you could really do that anywhere, particularly with the help of some irrigation.

I have posted your question to our Facebook group which has over 5,000 members and someone within the group is bound to have some local knowledge and experience, the group can be found here
