Broad Spectrum Parasite Control

AVOMEC DUEL Contains powerful abamectin for broad-spectrum protection against the majority of internal parasites.

Sustained Barbers Pole Control

AVOMEC DUEL also contains closantelfor targeted action gainst Barber’s Pole Worm and Liver Fluke. Formulated with a high rate of 50 g/L closantel, AVOMEC DUEL provides:

• 6 weeks sustained protection against reinfection; and
• a 6 week limitation of pasture contamination with faecal eggs of closantel-susceptible strains of Barber’s Pole Worms.

Enhanced Closantel Absorption

AVOMEC DUEL is formulated with a closantel concentration that is higher than standard closantel sheep drenches.

The closantel in the AVOMEC DUEL formulation is also absorbed at a higher rate than other formulations even when dosed at the same rate. The high levels of closantel absorbed into the sheep’s blood ensures high efficacy against the blood-feeding Barber’s Pole Worm and Liver Fluke.

Barber’s Pole Symptoms

Barber’s Pole Worms feed on blood, and heavy infections can produce signs such as:

• Weakness
• Fluid collection under the jaw “bottle jaw”
• Barber’s Pole Worms can have a significant impact on sheep productivity, including reduced wool growth, reduced weight gains, reduced milk production and reduced growth.

Activity Against Resistant Strains of Barber’s Pole Worm

AVOMEC DUELhas activity against resistant strains of Barber’s Pole Worm, including those resistant to both abamectin and closantel, and 6 weeks sustained activity against closantel - susceptible Barber’s Pole Worm, including strains resistant to
macrocyclic lactones.

This activity against resistant strains of Barber’s Pole Worm makes AVOMEC DUEL sheep drench ideally suited as a quarantine drench to help prevent the introduction of resistant strains of Barber’s Pole Worm on to a property. In this situation, it is advisable to hold treated sheep in treatment yards for at least 24 hours before introduction to paddocks.

Strategic Barbers Pole Worm Treatment

Barber’s Pole Worm likes warm and moist environmental conditions, requiring temperatures exceeding 10 degrees Celcius (min) and 18 degrees Celcius (max) as well as rainfall (moisture) levels equivalent to 12 mm per week to enable eggs to hatch and larvae
on pasture to effectively develop to theinfective stage.

The key to controlling Barber’s Pole is therefore to recognize when these conditions are in place and to then use strategically applied
drenches and pasture management to keep the life-cycle from gaining any real momentum.

Barber’s Pole Worms can multiply quite quickly, lay large numbers of eggs each day rapidly contaminating pastures and
can have very serious effects when not properly controlled.

A sustainable approach to achieving control involves integrating the use of AVOMEC DUEL with the use of both sustained activity products (e.g. controlled release capsules) and shorter acting drenches (e.g. TRITON®) with monitoring of  both faecal egg counts and the weather - rainfall and temperature.

Standard Dose Volumes

The AVOMEC DUELdose rate of 1 mL/5 kg bodyweight is the same low dose as traditional sheep drenches and administration is by the oral route using any standard drenching equipment. This makes drenching with AVOMEC DUEL sheep drench easy and simple. At the recommended dose rate, AVOMEC DUEL drench delivers 0.2 mgabamectin and 10 mg closantel per kg bodyweight. Two powerful actives, with the convenience of one easy dose.
