Farm consulting for first time farmers

Hi All,

Just a quick note to recommend the farm consultations offered through Charlie on this site. We have recently bought 100 acres for our tree change and once the excitement of settlement passed, we moved into the 'omg what have we done? we have no idea where to start or what we are doing' phase.

Whilst we didnt get a pre-purchase inspection/consultation done, we wish we had. We have since had Malcolm come out to our property and do a summary report for us. The amount of information we got from our walk-around the property with him was amazing. We now have a whole farm management plan underway and are super excited about it.

It is definitely worth considering as we have so much more direction now and we have a much better idea of what we dont yet know.

Food for thought!

Hi Firstgenfarmer,

Thank you for the post and kind words regarding our consulting service, it is very much appreciated.

Other members may like to know that typical topics covered during our pre-purchase inspection include:
  • Water resources
  • Legal requirements
  • Land capability
  • Fencing & likely costs
  • Declared weeds
  • Soil management
  • Stocking rates
  • Pasture quality and grazing management
  • Native vegetation
  • Machinery & farm infrastructure requirements

Identifying the farms strengths, weaknessess, opportunities and threats is also very important and can save the purchaser a large amount of money in the future.

Regards,

Charlie
