Tractor implements... Advice please.

Hi all,

I have 15 acres of flat land in the Latrobe Valley. When we purchased the farm we got a 25hp Kubota (2201) 4wd tractor, a single tine ripper and a slasher.

The block had been let go by the previous owners and the owners before that and we've replaced a fair bit of the fencing. Now we're at the point where we need to start working the soil, improving it and sowing pasture crops.

I'm tring to decide which implements that I can put on the back of the tractor for this purpose? I'm tossing up between a disc plough or a rotary hoe but there may be other implements that are better suited?

If I want to work the soil, from scratch, and prepare it for planting pasture crops what implements do I need? Which implements would be nice to have? And which should I steer clear of?

Cheers, Mal.

Hi Mal

4 years after your post, I hope you have done well with your pastures.
Can I ask you how the Kubota 2201 has performed for you?
I am looking at a 2202 with loader and backhoe.

Do you still have the tractor, are they as good as the dealer is telling me?
I am on hilly ground, any concerns with this ?

Thanks in advance
Tom

Mal - it is important that you scratch up the surface with some harrows to allow you to introduce some new pastures. Purchase seed from your nearest store eg Norco or CRT and invest in some decent chain harrows with decent spikes to allow you to work seed into existing pastures.
