New novice farmer to Gloucester NSW.

We are in th process of buying 180 Ha near Gloucester. Will need some pasture improvement down the track and we plan to get a few steers to start with as we are new to cattle. We have plenty of fencing projects, dam construction, and weed management ahead of us. Looking forward to it. We will only be weekend warriors at this stage. Will need to get some equipment such as tractors and implements. Thinking mulcher rather than slasher. Once I get a handle on the place we might need to rent a forestry mulcher on a skid steer to clear a bit more land. Any comments are welcome.

Hi there and welcome to the forum. Congrats on your purchase. I would set up a property development plan. This will give you a timeline of what needs to be done and when. It also will help you to prioritise time and finances. I would also organise to have some soil sets done. That way you will know what you have to start with and you may be better of adding nutrition to exhisting pastures to start with. If you have any queries we are always happy to help. Regards Rolly

Thanks Rolly. Soil tests are right up there on my list of things to do first. Cheers.

Good luck ! I spend 4 days roughly out of every 7, going flat strap at the chores and minor improvements on the outside on a well established property that is a tiny fraction of what your looking at, established pasture with shade trees and well fenced etc. Oh, and am only a few minutes to ag stores, supplies, hardware etc, your going to soon realise the enormity or your weekend undertaking :)
