What is the best pasture for goats/alpacas

We have a large paddock that is shared by goats/alpacas.....it has recently been covered in moss with very little feed available ....we are planning to till the paddock and lime it...and we were wondering what we should seed it with? What would be our best seed mix to use when replanting for goats/alpacas?

Hi Currey,

Thanks for the question. Can you please provide some further details including:

  • Where the farm is located?
  • What is the average rainfall?
  • Soil type, clay, loam or sand?
  • Have you carried out a soil test?

Any other information that you can provide that you think may be helpful.

Regards,

Charlie

I'm always disappointed when Chalrie or others take the time to respond to a question submitted and then there is no follow up from the original author.

Charlie, I do appreciate your advice and thank you for the time you take to answer as best you can.

A big shout out to the other advice providers too :)

I am so sorry for my lateness in replying...life has been hectic!  Our farm is in northern NSW near Murwillumbah , not sure of annual rainfall but I would suggest quite high, when we tilled the paddock up the soil seemed quite loamy and rich, we also soil tested and the result was neutral , but we added lime as well. We were considering seeding with kykua grass but have still not decided.....I do apologise for not responding earlier but would still really appreciate any advice.
