Foxlights

Does anyone have this product? Anyone heard anything about them?

I saw an ad on google and did some research. The owner Ian created the product and runs the company himself. He also owns his own farm so I am inclined to believe the product works. My local store doesnt stock it but they think it would be a good idea to try. Seen the video online of how it work sand look great.

I was extremely lucky to win a fox light on this forum, although it was after my goats had kidded so I haven't had the chance to try it yet.  I know of three people who have these lights & feel they have been well worth buying as they have not had any losses to foxes where as neighbours without them have suffered losses. Certainly worth a try.Laughing

Just had a look at the site and at that price it would be well worth a try. You would only have to save a couple of animals to pay it off and it would sure be a lot easier on you than staying up all night enforcing rule 222.

Haven't got a use for them - yet - but I did attend an information day on a small sheep farm near me.

They have said they have not lost a lamb to a fox since they have used them.  They also mentioned that at night the neighbours sheep huddle on the fence line closest to where the fox light is.

Hi there, 

We are on 60 acres and run suffolk and Merinos. (36 + two rams). We have quite a few foxes around that are quite cheeky and active. 

During lambing this year we used a combination of a single foxlight, an alpaca wether (who is a great guard) and a Maremma Sheepdog who is kept in the house yard most of the time and is run with our chickens only. Our Anglo Nubian goats are also very good at deterring predators. (believe it or not)

I beleive the foxlight is good for the sheep as it gives them a safe place to camp at night. You can move it around and since we started using it we did not lose any lambs to foxes. our neighbour did! Wherever they are camping (you can tell this by the grass and manure cluster) just bang in a star picket and off it goes. Battery life is great. 

I would always use a combination of fox deterrants. If your problem is very bad often a radio on a talk station is helpful during lambing also. 

I wouldn't just use a foxlight but I do recommend the purchase!

Fox lights are brilliant!  We have used them extensively with free range pigs farrowing in paddocks and we stopped losing litters to foxes.

You can't be stingy with them though. They only cover a small area so every farrowing hutch had a light on top. Use a couple in sheep camps. Move them from time to time. 

We now use the lights for our free range chooks and while the neighbours are always losing birds to foxes and we hear them calling all the time, we have not lost a hen. 

I have always found it difficult to convince people the lights really work. It seems too simple for people so they want to doubt them. I actually gave one to an older neighbour because his hens were being taken regularly and he thought flashing lights would never stop foxes!  He hasn't lost a hen since. (And never gave the light back :) )

They come on automatically at dusk and go off at dawn and the battery lasts for months.  It's almost cruel not to have these if you have a fox problem.

Hi, l had a fox light that l won on this site. it didn't do very well for my chooks, the light was a metre away from their chook house, and the fox got them, two weeks ago and the other 2 last night..:( so l guess for sheep and the like they may be good, but not for my chooks. or maybe l have a very sly fox. well l will see how it dodges a bit of lead in the next few nights.. good luck.
