A copy of this book would be a big help. http://farmstyle.com.au/book/running-small-flock-sheep Do you know any sheep farmers you could tag along with. They have lots of simple knowledge you could pick up for some free labour. Also, you need to figure out what you want from the sheep. Killers, wool, both or just lawnmowers. Cheers Rob.

Rob is on the money. The book is a good start. The other things to understand is the need for good fencing and to think through your yards to make husbandry easy. As pointed out - what type of sheep?, Low maintenance shedding sheep for meat, a stud, fine wool or lawn mowers. Each choice has different requirements and different start up costs. I have a small hobby farm and have commercial dorpers for my own meat and a few registered dorpers for breeding. If you are near Murrumbateman (between Yass and Canberra) I'd be happy to show you our setup. Cheers Craig

Hi,

The other book that may be of interest is sheep agskills which provides a guide to the basics of handling and caring for sheep.
