Nigerian Dwarf Goats

Hi All!

We're preparing to purchase a property soon with the hopes to (among other things) breed/milk/show Nigerian Dwarf Goats.
I know they are a fairly new breed to Australia, and I have done a general search for breeders in Australia and there are a few. I was after any feedback you might have for purchasing/breeding them here. Any breeders you would recommend or stay clear of? Has there been any issues you've come across with having a new breed.

Hi Gem, Nigerian Dwarf goats are adorable and much the same as any other goat. They were imported into Australia 15-20 years ago. They are as their name suggests from the West coast of Africa. They are a vey popular breed as they are small and make good pets for children and are ideal for small acreages. The Miniature Goat Breeders Association of Australia will be able to give you all the information you need and also the names of breeders, who are members of their association. Nigerian dwarf goats have only been in Australia since 2014.
We imported the first Nigerian dwarf goats into Australia in early 2014. Prior to our importation, no new breed of dairy goat had been imported into Australia since the early 1950's. Our first kids were born in late winter 2014. We maintain a herd of strictly pure bred stock, all derived from imported genetics from the U.S.A., where the breed was developed, and all registered in the closed U.S. breed herd book (meaning no cross breed/percentage "Nigerians" can be registered in that herd book).
