Firstly to pay respect to the traditional owners " The Ngarrindjeri ", as I do not own the land, I am a caretaker of this land for the next generation. I come from a beef and cotton family since 1858 when my great grandfather worked alongside the local indigenous people and made them shareholders in the farming business, not treated them as slaves. He respected their country, educated locals on their significance and drew on their knowledge and expertise to create success. For this, I am proud. Farming is a community effort, always has been and always will. Success is from integration, open mindedness and having a go. Arrogance and production are opposing ideals and the most successful growers of any produce share everything their reap. There are no courses in this country on " Farming for the non farmer ", so here I am learning from Charlie and the posts on here, and we will never know it all.

We have recently purchased a property with the view to establish a hobby farm. This has been a life long dream that has only recently been made achievable. We are novices and don't know anything so thought we would approach the experts. We have 19 acers, 7 electric ribbon fenced paddocks, bore water to each paddock & water trough and 4 shelter huts. We are wanting advice on whether to embark on agisting horses? I am currently doing an animal husbandry course, but any advice would be appreciated.

To educate the public about the most important thing is water and the use of the land.

Looking to learn as much as I can from existing forum users. This is mainly going to be a getaway block for me as the land is reasonably rugged however it does have a very nice shed and a lot of equipment such as a tractor, water tanks etc. May look at putting a few goats on it

We are weekend farmers with our farm mostly based on AirBnB accomodation, producing truffles in the near future, and a small amount of sheep with a couple of alpacas on the property as lawn mowers and for food when lambs come about. We are looking to diversify into a few small extra areas of income, perhaps some more sheep to sell to market, and some honey production.
