Dolomite supplier

i'm trying to find a supplier for my farm at Crookwell.

Had the soil testing done. Dolomite better than Lime for me

Quote from spreader companies was $10k+ for 190 ac. Supply and spread. (tell him he's dreaming)

If I can find a source i'll spread it myself.

When is best to spread and does it need digging in (?)

I want to do asap and then fertalise in early spring

Any thoughts please.

Hi Barra,

I don't know what state Crookwell is in. However, You can buy dolomite by the pallet in 20 kg bags from rural suppliers in Qld. There are also suppliers of bulk dolomite listed on the net and in most phone books.

When I spread dolomite on 100 acres five years ago, I had a contractor lightly till the soil before spreading it.  The contractor charged around $2,000 to do it and spread the dolomite afterwards. I supplied the dolomite The all up cost was around $2,800.00 from memory. As you said, tell him he's dreaming! Often, if you ask around, the locals will know reliable contractors who will do a good job and not try to rip you off.

I have found it's a good idea to get to know your neighbours. Most people on the land in Queensland where I live, are friendly and only too happy to give advice and so on if you ask. Hope this helps.

The time for spreading the dolomite will depend on when the first rains of the season can be expected. If you live in a temperate climate then normally that would be in spring.

Cheers,

Barb
