Square Meaters cattle

Hi Rob,

I had a look at some photos of Square Meaters on the web and they look a lot like my Murray Grey's but they are shorter and the body weight given is lighter. Are they related to Murray Greys or Angus? Just curious to know.

cheers,

Barb

Barb,

I think they are based on Murray Greys. They have been great terminal sires for the heifers hence the thought to break from the bigger is better way of thinking with the cows. the calves seem to finish better/easier in dry times. Also would like to see how Galloways fit in, another chunky breed that supposedly do really well on not perfect pasture. Need to lease a bull and see the outcome I think........

Cheers

Rob.

Hi Rob,

thanks for that. I am waiting to see what the result of mating my Murray Greys with the French Limousin bull I bought a few months ago will turn out like. He's a good looking big fellow and very quiet- polled too, which is good, Hate having to de-horn.

cheers,

Barb

Barb,

You are right about the dehorning. It was one of the deciders for the black baldies apart from an easy source and hybrid vigour.

Rob.
