What are commercial sheep?

Hello, Looking at purchasing a small starter flock of 10 sheep. I see sale ads for purebred, or commercial quality, or they don't say either way. My intention is to eventually build to levels to on sell sheep at sale yards or abba tours. Does this mean I need commercial quality? Thanks in advance

Sheep or free range chicken

Hi everyone,

I live in SA metropolitan area but want to buy a farm for lifestyle and say to generate 20000 income as well. I am interested in sheep and organic chicken farming. By profession, I am a nurse and work 4 days a week. How much land I need to have sheep or chicken farm in general or what is the density ratio. Any suggestion is welcome and if you guys can tell me where to start as well. Thanks in advance.

Needing some advice ( i mean lots of :)

Hello Everyone,

We have a 19 acre property currently fenced as 6 paddocks.  Needs a little work to have sheep but overall in good shape.

We live on the property and are keen to turn the property into a organic farm to create enough income to pay the bills.

I was thinking of the following but dont have enough info on what to do/ where to start and also numbers to see if its viable.

Purchasing Sheep

My partner and I are buying 110 ewes through a Landmark agent. Im a bit bamboozled with the paperwork as it is asking if we are a Company, Partnership, Sole Prop, Govt Dept, Trustee Co. My partner has a sole trader business as he is a truckie, but we dont want to combine the farm with his business. Do we need to be a business to buy stock? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

Order of operations for pasture improvement

Hi there, I am new to this forum. We have a hobby farm in NSW northern rivers.

I have a south facing slope in the cattle/horse paddock which has been overrun by blady grass and weeds. I have spent the last couple of seasons selectively spraying broadleaf weeds and slashing. With spring here I plan to oversow the area with Rhodes grass and Millet. The point of the millet would be to get up quickly for some early summer feed and shade out the weeds. Will it also shade out the establishing Rhodes grass too much?

My plan was (to minimse labour):

Looking at purchasing 10 acres far Northern NSW

Hi all, Been researching over the net and stumbled over this gem of a website. Have had a read through the forums but as Im only able to access on my old phone, this is quite a task! Id appreciate if anyone has the time to read and advise. We are looking at purchasing a 4.84 ha (just under 12 acres/48400 square meters) property located near Broadwater Far North NSW. Ex cane farm, nothing but grass has grown on it in 15-20 years. Type of grass im unsure, am in the process of finding out but is totally covered. Soil is a mix of sandy and clay loam right opposite the Richmond River.

Tractor or Atv with tow behind?

Hi guy's have just purchased a property 44 acre in size there would be approximately 10 acre of mixed bush and the rest is open paddocks but is quite hilly just wondering what would be the best option other than animals at this stage for grass management? It can also get quite wet in the area as well. Regards Grizzo

Tractor implements... Advice please.

Hi all,

I have 15 acres of flat land in the Latrobe Valley. When we purchased the farm we got a 25hp Kubota (2201) 4wd tractor, a single tine ripper and a slasher.

The block had been let go by the previous owners and the owners before that and we've replaced a fair bit of the fencing. Now we're at the point where we need to start working the soil, improving it and sowing pasture crops.
