Certifications required to raise pigs commercially

I have heard recently that if one wanted to raise pigs commercially, they now legally require a Cert III in Animal Husbandry and 12 months experience on a pig farm. Apparently this is regulated by the RSPCA, who can come onto your property without a warrant, at any time, to inspect your pigs and ensure that you comply with the regulations.

I can't seem to find any information on the net relating to this.

Can you help? Is this indeed the case?

Sowing grass

Just wondering if anyone is able to advise of the best way to sow pasture. We have a Shearer combine with a seed and fertiliser box. We're looking at a pasture of Rhodes grass, some Medic and Panic at this stage. We've heard of people sowing seed using the fertiliser box along with the fertiliser. We have had our soil tested and only need to replace some nitrogen. Are we able to use the fertiliser box with just seed in it. Any suggestions will be helpfull.

Thanks

Kubota BX 2230 auxillary hydraulic ports

Hi all,

Just looking for a bit of help regarding attachments for the above tractor. I am looking at purchasing a 3 point log splitter. Does anyone know if you can add aux hydraulic quick release points to the above tractor?. I know they can have 4 in 1 buckets attached so i am assuming there must be provision somewhere. If so,

The splitter comes with a valve body and control handle, besides purchasing hoses and the ports to attach to hydraulics of the tractor, would i need to do anything else.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Greg

Sudex hay

Can anyone advise on this hay for cattle- apparently it can be poisonous for horses?  The farmer i bought it from feeds it every day to his cattle - the research i did after I found out what its called suggests it can cause prussic acid and then form cyanide in the liver of equines. Anyone have any experience or knowledge of this hay??

When and to how to prepare for adding lime to paddocks

Dear Nice Farmstyle People

Last year I had some soil tests done and you advised me to add some lime to our little paddocks in Hartley Valley on the western side of the Blue Mountains.

Now I am wondering what to do next?

How do I prepare the ground for adding lime and is there a right time to do it?

Thanks in advance

Greg

Cultivation and weed controll

Hi,

New to this forum. My wife and I have just purchased a small property in Dublin (south Aust) and need to clean the paddocs up in preperation to top sow some pasture mix. The paddocs have a lot of weeds and I was wondering what the best way to clean them up would be? Would just putting a set of discs over it and turning everything over work or what would be a better option?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Aaron

Thanks to the reply to my last post regarding the age of a bull becomming fertile.

I was wondering what is the process of having my cow spayed? If it is a costly process and what stresses this may put on the cow?

I also have another calf which is coming up to 6months or so now and am wondering if she can still run with our bull who is now about 7months? I dont want to breed her for at least another 16-18 months but am not sure when she will first come into heat?

Which enterprise for small farm?

Hi,

I've been thinking about purchasing about 40ha of land between Mudgee and Wellington. The land backs onto the Cudgegong river, but the pasture doesn't look to be improved at all. Unfortunately, I come up about $20,000pa short on repayments with my current income, so I was hoping a small farming enterprise might be able to make up the difference.
