Starting a self sufficient/permy/homestead/hobby farm!

Hi All!

I'm a total newbie here. My family and my parents are planning on buying land to start growing our own food, raising goats for milk for drinking making soap/lotions and other animals that will help us make our land the best it can be.
We're all townies, well burbies I guess is more accurate, so this is all new to us, but we're so very excited to get started and find our new home.

Hello! 50 Acres on the South Coast NSW

Hello there,

My name is Lilly and I've been living with my family on our 53 Acre property (4 hours south of Sydney) for about 15 years now. In now a new mum and have purchased a share in the property with my partner, so it's now the two of us along with my Mother. We have a few hand reared sheep, chooks, a few horses and have had a handful of cattle in the past but none for a few years now.

Dear all

I am a new member and would appreciate your help.

I am reviewing purchasing a modest property (20-30 hectares) in the Northern River area of NSW (near Byron Bay). Sydney CBD life ain't what it used to be.

To my knowledge, the Northern Rivers area enjoys good rainfall and tends to look very 'green'. I note a lot of locals are growing nuts (macadamia, etc) and some run beef cattle.

Phil. Newby. Just inherited 20 acres of grapes. 80% sultana grapes and 20% white wine.
I'm a sparky and know nothing about grape farming. Gulp!!
Grew up on farms but none had grapes.

New member - Brisbane - looking for agistment for cattle

Hi everyone, I'm from southwest Brisbane and am starting my own small herd. I'm right at the beginning - I have a brangus heifer coming in 3-4 months, and am looking to have in here for a short period, then move to agistment. I plan to build the herd up over time as I can pick up cattle at the right price, and put a bull over the heifers when they are ready.

17 year old with a strong passion for agriculture

Hey guys, My name is James and i am from Melbourne, Australia. My dad grew up on a farm in Casterton, Victoria. Now my uncle owns the 560 acre property and runs a beef operation. whenever i am on school holidays or have a long weekend i try and make the venture west just to spend a couple of days with my uncle and learning as much as i can. Going to school in Melbourne with a passion for agriculture is difficult, none of my friends are interested in the industry and very few of the adults i am associated with know much about agriculture. And that is why i chose to join the forum.
