Hello to the Good Life
Hello to the Good Life
Just want to say a quick hello to all out there.
Love this site and all the like minded people supporting each other.
We are new to farming, having eventually bought our little piece of heaven (40 acres) and cant wait to get it all up and running. Its a bush block, so we are beginning with a blank slate. The hope is to have a small viable enterprise running redline cattle. Plus of course the mandatory chickens and dogs, plus maybe even a few pigs for the pot.

Farming
Hello
I have recently joined.
I am keen to understand how to get into organic farming. I have no experience in farming. I have been in the software business for 10+ yrs and my wife is the health care sector
We are currently moving out from Melbourne to Devonport.
Appreciate if any help can be given on how and where to start with farming? Investments and effort required?
Aveen

Farming question
Farming question
Hi I have 35 acres in central victoria and I was wanting to start farming I have never farmed before so I'm after some advice. I was thinking about running goats on the property and was wanting to know how much is involved in doing so and if it is worth it profit wise. I also thought about cropping it as well but I'm not to sure can someone suggest what I could do with the property to at least get me started. Thank you

What is the definition of a small farm
We purchased about 300 acres of gently undulating farmland in southern WA about two years ago. It has now been lying fallow for about 5 years (does that make it organic?) and is partly fenced (historical mallee/wire boundary fence that the emus and roos push down regularly) . We had absolutely no intentions of buying this much land but when I saw it, the views of the surrounding ranges captivated me so much I put in a very, very cheeky offer and it was accepted! Still pinching ourselves as we sit in our unfinished barn conversion, but scratching our heads big time as well.

Hi All,
I first want to say I've thoroughly enjoyed reading this web site. Well I'm sad to say I am yet to purchase a farm however if all goes well I plan on changing that with in the next 12 months. You see I've just been made redundant from my job of 15 years and I would like to take advantage of the situation by investigating the possibility of owning my own small farm business.

Hello from a small farm in Nanango
Hello from a small farm in Nanango
Hi everyone, I live on eight acres in south east Queensland, Australia, with my husband Peter and two dogs. We have a passion for small-scale organic farming and producing and eating real food. We keep chickens (mainly Rhode Island Reds), beef steers, two jersey cows and a big vegetable garden. I write a blog about our farm to both inspire and help others who are interested in self-sufficiency, sustainability and permaculture.
I'm looking forward to using this forum to learn more about small farming.

this will be the first of many questions and posts but we were wondering what the best way is to start and how much land and cattle we should be looking at if we want to grow into it?
