Agistment... How?

Hi there - A couple of months ago I purchased a beautiful home and pool on farm land (89 acres) at Mosquito Hill on South Australia's Fleurrieu Peninsular. I have been looking at buying a fam for some time and decided to go ahead when I found this beautiful spot. I am currently working mining FIFO to Indonesia and intend to continue for another 3-4 years. On returning to Australia, I will then look at being very involved in the farm life - cattle, fowl, other livestock, fresh produce etc...

Agisting Cattle - how do I go forward from here.

Agisting Cattle - how do I go forward from here.

For a couple of years we have agisted cattle - initially we did this instead of purchasing our own as we were regularly travelling overseas for months at a time.  However now we are here most of the year.  We have hilly country but are inexperienced with mustering cattle.

Having cattle agisted on the property has been useful in growing our experience by watching the owner interact with the cattle for drenching, mustering etc.  The owner musters by horses and his dogs.

Selling meat off farm that is slaughtered by a registered abattoir

Hi, I read the answer to a post about the process of how to go about legally slaughtering and selling meat off farm, and that it was a costly and lengthy process. How much would that change if the body is slaughtered by a registered abattoir? Then we would cut it up and package it here to be frozen and sold frozen from here...?

No website for saleyards?

I can't seem to find a website that has a list of saleyards, where they are and when they have livestock auctions? Seems odd?

If you know of any in south east queensland and when auctions are held I'd appreciate the info.

Surveying a property

Hi All,

We are looking at buying a small 10 acre property in SE Vic.

As the fences are needing to be replaced, should I consider engaing a Surveyor to mark out the property first?

It is a irregular shaped block with about 20 x survey pegs needed.

What sort of cost would that involve?

Thanks,

Keith

Rehabilitating old pasture land

My question is who do I need to help me and what am I asking them to do? I think I need a local farmer but I have no idea what to ask for just yet.

Used Tractor Help

Hello Need help! We are looking to purchase a used tractor for under $5-7k We are hoping to purchase a tractor with a grater blade on the front and a slasher on the back or can add these implements later. The adverts always sound so technical so hoping some more Tractor-savvy people could tell me what to look for in purchasing a used tractor. What is a PTO? How many hours is "well used"?
