Money from agistment

Hello, i have just purchased 133 acres and the previous owners have asked for 90 days to relocate, to which we have agreed. The old owners have about 20 cattle for agistment from a neighbouring property. Are we now entitled to the agistment money if the cattle are staying as it is now our property, thankyou jorja

How to find a market for produce?

Hi all, I am wondering what is the best way of doing research on the market demand of a particular culinary and medicinal herb I am considering on planting. Are there consultants you can employ to do this type of work or is it best to approach local supermarkets and wholesalers, produce markets and try to find out yourself?    I know there is one large supplier of this herb in Australia but how would I find out if there is demand for more than they supply?

What to do with 10 acres ?

Hi

We have a 10 acre residential/rural pasture block with small creek in Gladstone, it has access to a small bore and fairly heavy brown soil.

The soil sample gave a 3/5 star rating, needing some calcium, phosphorous, potassium and zinc.

Wanting to ask if there was anything we could do for supplement income on such a small acreage.

Rates and interest are fairly high.

I grew up on a medium size irrigation property and am a hands on guy, but also aware that there are risks associated.

Open to any ideas.

New to Farming and looking to seed and crop hay for horses

Hi guys, i'm as new as they come to farming but am excited to learn.

My wife and I recently purchased 55 acres of flat farming land and i'd love some advice on what implements i would need to prepare, sow and crop for horse hay. I understand it's not as simple as i may want it to be but i figure if i can slowly get the implements then i can start my farming journey. I currently have a small 30hp tractor for all my small maintanance jobs around the place and would look at only croping 30 acres to start , maybe even 15 , so any advice would be much appreciated,

Question about what type of cattle to run?

When people buy underweight cattle to fatten up what breed do they usually go for or do they just go for anything that is cheap? also, do genetics affect the price you get? and is it better to buy an underweight yearling to fatten or a full grown cow to fatten?

new to goats - deworming

Hi  I am new to this site and new to goats. I have had chickens for years and thought I would give goats a try as pets. I have never had any livestock. I picked up two female 6 month old goats 5 days ago. They are Nubian x Saanen. I was told that one needed to be dewormed straight away, so I gave it a dose of Oralject. This hasn't seemed to work, as the poo has got sloppier each day since. How often can I give treatment? How long do I wait to try again or try another treatment? How long does it normally take to see improvement after treatment?

New to this and need advice

Hello All. I am looking at going into freerange pig farming on a small lot. Never farmed before so am collating information. The property will be in Victoria somewhere near Bright Myrtleford around there. My question is, to anyone who may know, how many pigs would it take to produce a good income and how much land would I need. I know these are very general questions but I need to start somewhere so this is the starting point. Thanks for you time. Alistair

Farming & Mining

Hey everyone. My name is Ben and this is my first time here so thanks for having me. (This might cause a stir, Hope not) I am currently in Mining and I hate it, hate a lot of the people involved and their attitudes and only do it for the obvious reason to get ahead. I previously grew up on a farm and remember it being a hard but a great lifestlye and would like to return to it but didn't take advantage of learning as much as i should have while i was there but was always involved none the less.

Pasture improvement continued

Hi Barb,

Thanks so much for answering my question. It's great to feel that decisions I make I can run by you guys. Re the super, I was thinking I would like to get hold of some sheep and cow manure to spread before the hay mulch rather than super, What do you think? I would love to bail the lucern but considering Hartley rainfall I would give it about 50/50 that it would stay dry enough. So many questions I would drive you nuts if I asked them all!

Thanks again

Gabrielle
