We are presently using weaner rings on a number of our calves and note that some are still sucking even with the ring on.

Has anyone come accross this before. 

The ring is yellow with barbs.

I have knee high fodder, and no stock. Do I buy some young cattle or take the grass off and make silage . 

I want to measure the water flows to the troughs on my farm. I can't find a meter that attaches to 50mm pipe. It would be good if the data could be recorded and/or studied remotley.

I can find industrial types but the cost is huge and the order is too small to intrest the sales people i talk to, so they rarely call back

I have just purchased a cattle property and am looking to replace the old cattle yards with a new set of portable ones. I have noticed that most yards have the crush's with the working side on the inside/holding pen? I have worked with cattle in the crush from the outside (offside) of the yards in the past, is there a reason why most crush's have the working side on the inside? I would think that this would be more hazardous having all your branding irons and working with your back to a pen full of animals? 

Im on 200ac at Crookwell, hoping to buy Murray Greys.   Will buy (or drop) in spring and sell in late Autum after 20 days on sillage or fodder. BUT not sure of what to do for the rest of this season. Pasture improved, water all good, feed up to your knees, good shade

I am interested to know what brand is best suited for NZ and AU conditions in the small tractor market between John Deere's 1E - 5E Series against Kubota's M - L Series?
Any thoughts of why one is better than the other for a ten acre property?

We all know how dangerous Quad Bikes can be on sloppy uneven ground.

Does anybody own a Quad Bike that has ROL ( Roll Over Protection ) fitted.

Whether as a standard accessory or as an aftermarket purchase.

Either way where can a hobby farmer like myself purchase one of these units.

l have a few acres and my building envelope is clear for the house, but where l would like to put a double garage is a few metres from mature gums. some say it doens't matter, some say it does.

Hi I am new as new can be, I have a 40 acre property most is tractorable but hilly in the latrobe regions of victoria where it is very wet and clayie. i want to grow some hay for the cows. what will I need for the job do I need 4x4 without ? or can I get away with 2 wheel drive. cheers for any help. thx

I found this site on the weekend - plenty of answers already for a newcomer to farming.

I am in the process of finalising the sale on 180 acres in the Tweed shire.  It has 40 cattle on it at the moment that will go after settlement.  I will spend the next few years travelling back and forth so am interested in getting some cattle on the property to keep the grass down.

I would like to lease the land for grazing and would appreciate any advice on how this works, namely:

- are these agreements formal or are they 'handshake' deals;
