Farm Income - new to the land

We have established two farming ventures over the past 20 years - one in animal husbandry and one in horticulture. We are currently diversifying with very little capital. Can I advise anyone new to the land and wanting to live on the income their property provides to first set up a very clear economic plan that includes business and personal savings. What ever your enterprise, it is going to swallow as much time and money as you give it. Setting clear and realistic boundaries to both time and money right at the beginning will yield solid returns from day one.

Online goat husbandry courses

Hi Am interested in goat farming in the near future. Have some land, will be harvesting feral goats also. I just wondered if anyone had any experience with any of the online goat courses. Are they worth the $500-$700? There is a lot of good quality online information available in the public domain. Do these courses just replicate that info and charge for the privilege? Any feedback very welcome Thank you

Apollo tractors

Hi, we are looking at buying a 85hp Apollo tractor with ROPS and FEL. Most comments on these tractors are a few years old. I was wondering if anyone has a more recent review and preferably from tractors a few years old. Thanks in advance.

Do Cattle Eat Wild Oats (Dry)

Hi Guys,

I run some Angus steers / heifers up near Wangartta, VIC. The feed is running quite low and dry however there are lots of wild oats (dried).

Is this something the cattle munch on?

Ticks in pasture

Is there a non hazardous/non chemical spray to treat pasture/paddocks for ticks? I acknowledge that this would have to be an ongoing process but wish to protect horses etc.jycw

Agistment Rates

We own 155 Acres of unimproved pasture just North of Melbourne that we are considering leasing out for agistment.  Can anyone tell me how to go about calculating agistment rates, both for cattle and sheep? Is there anything else to be aware of? Thanks.
